Questions On Jesus' Earthly Life
Question 1. Did Mary, the mother of Jesus, have any other children by Joseph?
Answer Yes, the
Bible does tell us that Jesus had other brothers and sisters that were born to Mary and
Joseph. This is recorded in the gospel of Matthew in the following Passage: Question 2. Could "Jesus" sin? Answer YES. Read Matthew chapter 4 -- the temptation of Jesus Christ. Think about it. If it was impossible for Christ to sin, then His temptation in Matt 4 would be a joke! If it was impossible for Christ Jesus to sin, then His whole coming here to earth and living and dying for us would be totally meaningless! Think about the crucifixion. Christ could have escaped; He could have called legions of angels to rescue Him. But He did not. One of the greatest temptatoins for Christ Jesus to sin was the temptation to quit all this "earth" stuff and go back home where it was safe and warm! But He stuck it out, because He loved us. Hebrews 4:15 tells us that Christ Jesus was tempted like as we are, but without sin. The entire book of Hebrews argues the superiority of Christ over the Old Testament Law, based on the fact that He could have sinned, but chose not to. If it were impossible for Christ Jesus to sin, then He could not be our great High Priest. Christ is our High Priest: Heb 5:1-3 1 For every high priest taken from among men is appointed for men in things pertaining to God, that he may offer both gifts and sacrifices for sins. 2 He can have compassion on those who are ignorant and going astray, since he himself is also beset by weakness. 3 Because of this he is required as for the people, so also for himself, to offer sacrifices for sins. (NKJ) He could not be our High Priest if He had not "walked a mile in our shoes" to understand the temptations which we face. And if it were impossible for Him to sin, these temptations would be a joke! He would not "really" have been tempted at all. How can a rich politician really understand the condition of poor people? There is no way! But Christ was poor, cold, suffered, and tempted like as we are. Could He feel pain? See His suffering in the trial before His death. Could He feel sorrow? Jesus wept (John 11:35). Could He feel the temptation of sin? Surely; and if it was impossible for Him to sin, such temptation would be meaningless, a sham! Yes it was possible for Jesus to sin. Contact David
